October in Ceres: A Month of Faith, Community, and Tradition

October in Ceres

October is one of my favorite months in Ceres. The air gets cooler, the leaves start to change, and our community comes alive with events that bring us together. From grand openings to Friday Night Lights, October is filled with faith, family, and fun.

We kick off the month with a new business grand opening, Seguro Insurance, celebrating local growth and opportunity. Then the weekend begins the way we love best, Friday Night Lights and the St. Jude Family Festival, October 4th through 6th. The St. Jude Festival is always special, a carnival with rides, music, and delicious food. It’s a cherished tradition for our Catholic community, and as a man of faith, I’ll be out there volunteering my time to support it.

Another highlight is the One Table, One Community event hosted by the Ceres Chamber of Commerce. If you want to enjoy great food from local businesses, this is the place to be. Imagine a long table stretching down the middle of downtown Ceres, neighbors eating, laughing, and connecting. That’s what community is all about.

On October 13th, we’ll hold our first City Council meeting of the month. I encourage everyone to sign up for notifications on the City of Ceres website so you can stay up to date on the issues and decisions shaping our future. The Ceres Unified School District also continues to bring parents, students, and the community together through meaningful town halls. This month, the focus is on the dangers of social media on October 16th. I look forward to this important conversation and the way it equips families with knowledge to guide our youth.

On October 18th, we gather for Trunk or Treat at Whitmore Park, a tradition the City of Ceres started just a few years ago that grows bigger every year. Word has it the Chick-fil-A food truck will be there this year, and I can’t wait for that!

Then comes one of the biggest traditions in Ceres, the Crosstown Showdown Parade on Saturday, October 25th. That same evening, the CV and Ceres High Booster Dinner will take place, a great opportunity to show your support for our student athletes and athletic programs.

The Crosstown Showdown Football Game itself will be played on Thursday, October 30th. The City Council even makes friendly bets on the winner, and afterward we recognize the team, coaches, athletic directors, and schools at our council meeting, because this tradition belongs to everyone in Ceres.

Finally, we close out October with Halloween night. Kids all over town will dress up in costumes from superheroes to princesses, scary monsters to funny clowns and head door-to-door for candy, laughter, and maybe a haunted house or two. Trick or treat safely, have fun, and remember… why don’t mummies take time off? Because they’re afraid they’ll unwind!

This October, let’s celebrate everything that makes Ceres strong: God, family, and country. I’ll see you out there at the festivals, games, and community gatherings that make this month so memorable.
